COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Michael Henchy of the No. 15 Ohio State men’s volleyball team was honored by the MIVA and named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday. The weekly nod is the first of his career.

The outside hitter finished last week with a team-best 21 digs over nine sets played, averaging 2.33 per set. Henchy totaled a season-high 14 digs at IPFW Wednesday to lead all student-athletes in the match. Against non-conference rival Penn State Friday in St. John Arena, he finished with seven digs. Henchy had a block in each match last week.

Henchy also had a great week offensively for the Buckeyes and totaled 31 kills for a 3.44 average. He picked up his first double-double of the season against the Mastodons after totaled 17 kills to go with his 14 digs. Henchy led the Buckeyes in the team’s 3-1 win over the Nittany Lions with 14 kills in the match. Against Penn State, he finished with a solid .324 attack percentage with only two errors.

Following tonight’s match at No. 11 Lewis, the Buckeyes (8-8, 4-4 MIVA) will travel to California for the Actice Ankle Classic, March 14-15, hosted by Long Beach State.
