COLUMBUS, Ohio: Ohio State tight end Ryan Hamby is one of 20 players listed on the John Mackey Award watch list released earlier today. The award has been given since 2000 to the top tight end in college football and is sponsored by the Nassau County Sports Commission.
A fifth-year senior from Cincinnati Moeller High School, the 6-5, 255-pound Hamby has played in 39 games and has 21 starts to his credit, including nine games last year. He has 36 career receptions and has averaged 11 yards per catch.
2005 John Mackey Award Watch List Released
Manhasset,N.Y. – The 2005 JOHN MACKEY AWARD watch list has been released by the Nassau County Sports Commission. Given annually to the best collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the JOHN MACKEY AWARD Selection Committee and announced in mid-December.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey isconsidered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others aremeasured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by hisSuper Bowl Championship, place in history as the first President of the NFLPAand his commitment to community. The award honors his leadership and career of excellence.
The John Mackey Award presented since 2000, lists four NFL players as alumni: Dallas Clark (’01) of the Indianapolis Colts, two-time Super Bowl Champion, Daniel Graham (’02) of the New England Patriots, Kellen Winslow, Jr. (’03) of the Cleveland Browns and Heath Miller (’04) of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
