COLUMBUS, Ohio – Forward Stephen Halliday of the No. 7-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey team has been named Big Ten Third Star of the Week after leading the Buckeyes with five assists and points in a split with then-No. 9 Penn State last weekend. This is the second B1G weekly honor of the campaign.
The Ottawa Senators draft pick and native of Glenwood, Md., had a point on five of the Buckeyes’ seven goals in the series. In game one last Friday, Halliday had three assists, marking his fourth three-assist game and fifth three-point outing of the season. He had two shot blocks, four shots and a +2 mark in the game. Saturday he had two assists in the third period, on a goal that put Ohio State in the lead 2:47 into the stanza and on a Tate Singleton goal at 15:28 that broke a two-all tie and stood as the gamewinner. Halliday had three shots and a +1 mark in the win.
Halliday leads the Buckeyes with 23 assists and 30 points this year. He is tied for sixth in points among NCAA freshmen, ranking fourth in the B1G, and is tied for fourth in assists among NCAA rookies, tying for seventh among all skaters.
This week, Ohio State (17-10-1, 10-8-0-0-0-0/t-2nd B1G) heads to Notre Dame (13-14-3, 8-10-2-1-0-1/6th B1G) for a two-game Big Ten series. The teams will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday in South Bend, Ind. The games will be streamed through Peacock and on Ohio State Radio. GAMEDAY LINKS
Looking ahead, the Buckeyes’ final regular season home game will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 against No. 5 Michigan. Ohio State and the Wolverines will close the series at 4 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Faceoff on the Lake outside in FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. The regular season wraps up with two games at No. 1 Minnesota Feb. 24-25.
