COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two Buckeyes were honored with Big Ten weekly awards on Monday, as Sam Hackenbracht was named the conference’s co-Player of the Week while Kami Kortokrax is the Freshman of the Week.
A junior from Massillon, Ohio, Hackenbracht hit for both power and average last week as the Buckeyes won four of six games to wrap up their Spring Break trip. She belted six home runs, drove in 10 runs and had a .588 batting average. Her on-base percentage was .600 and slugging checked in at 1.706.
In back-to-back games vs. UCF and Lehigh, Hackenbracht hit two home runs. Against the Engineers, she went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI and two runs scored. She also homered in wins over St. Thomas (MN) and No. 22 USF.
A second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2021 and Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Hackenbracht is batting .377 on the year and leads the team in slugging percentage (.836), home runs (seven) and extra base hits (14). She’s tied for the team lead in RBI (21).
Kortokrax, from Westerville, Ohio and a graduate of Bishop Harley, had nine hits in 18 at-bats last week including a double and a triple. She drove in two runs and also scored four times. Kortokrax had at least one hit in all six games last week and multiple hits in three contests. In a 5-2 win over St. Thomas (MN), she went 2-for-3 with a triple and scored two runs.
Through 22 games, Kortokrax is batting .339 with 19 hits (tied for third-most on the team), seven runs scored, five RBI, and a .393 on-base percentage. She’s started all 22 games at shortstop.
Ohio State (17-5) heads to Athens, Ohio tomorrow for a 6 p.m. game against the Ohio Bobcats. The Buckeyes are at home for the first time in 2022 this Friday through Sunday when they host Indiana. Admission to Buckeye Field is free.
