FLOURTOWN, Pa.—The Buckeyes closed out the Big Ten Championship shooting a one-over 281, aided by Will Grimmer’s final round 67, to finish tied for seventh place at 50-over par. The Wissahickon course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club proved to be a tough task for the field as wet conditions and high winds made it difficult to navigate the par 70, 7,119 yard championship layout that yielded only 13 rounds under par for the tournament.
Senior Caleb Ramirez led the way for Ohio State, sandwiching a second round 78 between two 71s to finish ten over and tie for 11th place, three spots better than his 2017 appearance. This result at the Big Ten Championship marks the fourth top-15 finish of the season and the fifth of his career. Ramirez’s senior campaign has been the best of his career, averaging over one stroke lower than any of his previous three seasons.
Will Voetsch also turned in a strong finish, carding an 80 in the gusty second round to go along with two 71s to tie for 21st at 12-over par. Coming off of back to back top-10 finishes, the senior put together a solid performance of 222 and contribute three rounds to the team score.
Will Grimmer’s tournament performance was highlighted by the fourth best score of the tournament, sinking five birdies against two bogeys to post a final round 67. Grimmer had trouble in the first two days, like the majority of the participants, turning in a 77 and 81 to finish with a share of 31st place at 15-over par. His final round 67 brings his season tally to nine for rounds in the 60s, and the fifth time he has shot 67 this year.
Daniel Wetterich and Laken Hinton each finished 17-over par, 77-78-72 and 78-77-72 respectively, to take possession of 42nd place and round out the starting five for the Buckeyes.
