Grimmer and Wetterich Carry Buckeyes Through Final at Nike Collegiate Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas—The Buckeyes showed up ready to play this morning, putting up 15 birdies in their first ten holes and being as low as six under at Colonial Country Club as a five man squad. Ohio State turned in the third best round of the final day at the Nike Collegiate Invitational, at two over, which featured some of the most skilled competition in college golf and five teams that scored ten over or worse in the final round. The teams 10th place finish is the highest finish that they have had in the five year history of their involvement in the tournament.

Will Grimmer followed up his second round 67 with a final round 69 to tie for fifth place at two under and take home his second top-5 finish in two events. Daniel Wetterich shot a two under 68 to move into a tie for 23rd at four over to record his third round of par or better this season. Coming in at three over, Will Voetsch contributed three of those first 15 birdies and finished 11 over for the tournament. Kevin Stone and Caleb Ramirez carded 75 and 72 in their final round and closed out the tournament at 14 and 15 over respectively.

The Buckeyes host their lone home event for the fall season, the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio next week on Monday and Tuesday, October 8th and 9th.
