COLUMBUS, Ohio – Gray won the third and final game of the 2019 Scarlet and Gray Series, 8-5, to pick up the victory in the Buckeyes’ annual fall series Sunday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
Scarlet won the opener, 8-0, Thursday night before Gray bounced back to even the series with a 6-0 victory Saturday afternoon.
In the clincher, Scottie Seymour finished 1-for-3 with a 3-run long ball while Matt Carpenter went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored. Right-hander Bayden Root picked up the win, allowing one earned run while striking out four in three innings of work.
The Buckeyes will continue fall workouts before opening the season against St. Joseph’s Feb. 14 in Port Charlotte, Fla.
