MADISON, WISC. – Carmen Grande scored a game-high 17 points to lead Ohio State to its season-high fourth win a row with a 61-50 victory at Wisconsin on Thursday.
With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 14-12 on the season and 10-7 in Big Ten play. They also keep their hopes alive for a double bye in next week’s Big Ten Tournament.
Grande finished with 17 points, five assists and three rebounds. Dorka Juhasz notched the 10th double-double of her freshman campaign as she finished with 10 points, 14 rebounds and a season-high four steals.
Guards Janai Crooms and Carly Santoro each chipped-in with 11 points.
Wisconsin was led by Marsha Howard with 15 points.
The first quarter wasn’t pretty either way as the Buckeyes led just 10-6 after 10 minutes. OSU found its footing in the second as a 10-0 run gave the Buckeyes a 29-16 lead. The lead climbed to as many as 18 points at 36-18 after the Buckeyes scored the first five points of the third quarter.
Wisconsin got as close as eight points on a couple of occasions in third quarter but the Buckeyes kept the double-digit advantage at 47-37 heading to the fourth. A Santoro runner over four minutes into the fourth broke a scoreless drought for both teams and Grande followed with a three on the next possession giving the Buckeyes a 52-37 lead with five minutes to play.
Wisconsin came back with a 9-0 run to again get within eight at 56-48 with just over two minutes to go. Grande again answered with a lay-in for her 14th point of the night and the Buckeyes led by 10 with a minute left.
Senior Day is up next for the Buckeyes on Sunday as they will host Rutgers. Tip is set for 2 p.m. on BTN. The Scarlet Knights secured a double bye in the Big Ten Tournament with a win over Minnesota on Thursday night.
