Michael Gildon, a rising sophomore on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been invited to the USA Hockey 2020 World Junior Summer Showcase, set for July 24-Aug. 1 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich. The showcase serves as an evaluation camp to assist in selecting the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2020-Jan. 5, 2021 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.

A native of Plano, Texas, Gildon played in eight games for the Buckeyes as a freshman in 2019-20 before season-ending surgery in November. He scored a power play goal vs. Michigan Nov. 1 and picked up an assist vs. RIT Oct. 12 in his first collegiate game.

Gildon spent two years with the U.S. National Team Development Program before joining the Buckeyes. He won a gold medal at the U17 World Challenge in 2017 and claimed bronze at the 2018 U18 World Hockey Championship.

Buckeye associate head coach Steve Miller is one of the assistant coaches on the USA Hockey WJC staff. This is his fifth consecutive year as a coach on the Team USA staff.
