COLUMBUS, Ohio –Leanne Bough will be continuing her academic and athletic career at Ohio State as a member of the Ohio State field hockey program this fall.

Bough was a member of the Whitney Point Golden Eagles varsity team for the past six seasons under coach Nicky Huston. During her high school career, she helped lead the Eagles to five straight state championships, ending her tenure with a state title this past fall as a senior captain. In addition to team accomplishments, the three-time captain is a two time All-American (2016,17). Following her senior season, Bough was named the New York State Player of the Year. Bough took her game and successes to her club teams as well, playing for CNY (coaches Casey and Josh Conover and True North (coach Jeff Harding). She helped both teams to indoor and outdoor tournament titles. The Whitney Point, N.Y. native has been involved with USA hockey over the past two years, earning a spot on the U17 National Team in 2017-18 and recently being selected for the U19 National Team for 2019.

“When you have the opportunity to coach an athlete like Leanne Bough it is rare. She is a sponge for knowledge of the game and studies shifting and movements on the opposing team during the game. Being coachable is what I enjoyed the most about Leanne. We would make adjustments all the time and she was willing to do it and learn when to use it. Her talent on the field is just amazing. I smile with pride for her as I think about how far she has come as a player and person over the past 6 years.”

– Nicky Huston, Whitney Point High School coach

“Coaching Leanne poise when she came up to Varsity her 7th grade year developed her mentally for high pressure games. She has the ability to remain calm and focused when it is needed most. This attributed to her making game changing plays, assisting goals or scoring goals in six consecutive Sectional and Regional games and five State Championship games for Whitney Point High School. Leanne’s determination to develop as a player and learn more aspects of the game continued year round since grade school. As a community we are very proud of her. I look forward to following her Ohio State career!”

– Nicky Huston, Whitney Point High School coach

“Leanne is used to winning. She is coming from a championship program that has won the state title the last five years in New York. She is used to excelling, performing under pressure, and giving her best for her team to succeed. I am really looking forward to coaching Leanne because I think she has a bright future ahead and I will be right there with her to help her achieve her dreams. She will bring her club, high school, and USA Junior national team experiences here to Columbus and I cant wait.”

 – Jarred Martin, Ohio State field hockey head coach
