Get to Know A Buckeye Newcomer | Emma Goldean

March 8, 2018

Columbus, Ohio – Emma Goldean has signed a national letter of intent to further her academic and athletic career as a member of the Ohio State field hockey program, head coach Jarred Martin announced.

A two-sport athlete in high school lettering in field hockey and soccer both for four years, Goldean will bring a competitive dynamic to the Buckeyes. A well-respected winner from the Charlotte area, Goldean was named to the North Carolina all-state team as a junior and senior while she led Providence Day High School to back-to-back state runner-up finishes. A 2017 Max Field Hockey Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team member, Golden was named the team MVP as a junior and senior, and she is the school record holder with 33 career assists. Her senior year was golden with her tallying 19 goals and a single-season school record of 15 assists to account for 53 points. She was coached by Miki Osherow on the high school level at Providence Day and the club circuit with the Charlotte Ambush.

Her most memorable moment of her field hockey career came during her junior year in the state final game. Trailing by one late in the game against Providence Day’s rival, Goldean ripped a shot that was then tipped by her own teammate into the back of the net to tie it all up. Not only starring in field hockey, but also in soccer, the North Carolina native was named to the all-conference and all-region team in 2016. As a junior on the pitch, she scored a goal that bested a goalie that is a member of the U.S. under 19 national team to help her team clinch the conference title.

“I am really excited to have Emma and her family join the Ohio State field hockey family,” head coach Jarred Martin said. “Emma comes to Columbus via Charlotte, North Carolina, where she has been playing for a great club program – the Charlotte Ambush. Emma brings her athleticism, enthusiasm and competitiveness to the team and really helps strengthen a very good 2018 class with her versatility. Emma has a bright future ahead of her and I’m so happy that she is a Buckeye!”
