COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s swimmer, Freya Rayner was named the women’s Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for her outstanding performance in the Buckeye’s win over the Kentucky Wildcats. Rayner, a junior from Sunderland, U.K. added 18 points and two, first-place finishes to help the Buckeyes defeat the Wildcats, 163-156 in the 2020 opener.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Rayner recorded an NCAA B-cut time (22.76) with a 22.68 time. Her finish was also good for a season best, beating her previous time of 23.13. She went on to take first again in the 100 freestyle, clocking a time of 50.03. Overall, Rayner was the fourth-highest female point scorer against Kentucky with 18 points. This marks the second conference honor of Rayner’s career as she was awarded the B1G Freshman of the Week in November 2017.
The Ohio State swim and dive program returns to the pool to face Michigan on January 18.
