COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two freshman members of the Ohio State women’s hockey team claimed weekly honors today with the WCHA. Jenna Buglioni is the conference’s Forward of the Week while Riley Bregman is the Rookie of the Week.
Buglioni was the nation’s top freshman scorer this past weekend, finishing with six points on three goals and three assists in a pair of Buckeye wins over Bemidji State. In a 4-1 triumph over the Beavers on Friday, she had two goals and two assists, falling just one point shy of tying the school record for points in a game. The next day, she chipped in with a goal and an assist as Ohio State completed the weekend sweep, 7-1.
In just six collegiate games, Buglioni has already picked up seven points (four goals, three assists) and is the third leading scorer in the conference (first amongst freshmen).
Brengman, a defenseman from China, Mich., had a +/- of +5 over two games last weekend while also registering her first career points. She had an assist in Friday’s 4-1 win and then on Sunday scored her first collegiate goal as part of the Buckeyes’ 7-1 triumph.
Brengman was part of a defensive effort that limited Bemidji State to just two goals and a total of 30 shots in two games last weekend.
The Buckeyes, ranked No. 4 in this week’s USCHO poll, travel to Madison, Wisc. for a two-game series with the No. 1-ranked Badgers on Friday and Saturday. Ohio State and Wisconsin split two games in Columbus Nov. 27-28.
