COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s track and field sophomore Alexis Franklin has been named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa this past Friday Franklin ran a season-best time of 57.81 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. The Millersville, Md., native’s time is the 12th-fastest in Division I this season and was only .35 seconds shy of her personal-best time in the event.

It marks the second Big Ten weekly honor for the 2013 Big Ten 400-meter hurdles champion and 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. It was also the third-consecutive victory for Franklin as she also claimed first place in the event at the Jesse Owens Track Classic in Columbus April 18 and at the LSU Battle of the Bayou back on April 5.

Franklin will get a sneak peak at the track in which she hopes to defend her Big Ten title on this season as Ohio State travels to West Lafayette, Ind., this weekend for the Dave Rankin Invite hosted by Purdue, the hosts of the 2014 Big Ten Outdoor Championships taking place May 16-18.
