COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four members of the Ohio State men’s tennis team have earned a spot in the fall’s final event, the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship, in Newport Beach, Calif.
Senior Kyle Seelig, junior John McNally and freshman Cannon Kingsley will all be in the singles draw while McNally and freshman Robert Cash will team up in the doubles tournament. Action begins on Wednesday, Nov. 6 and will run through Sunday, Nov. 10. The finals will be aired live on ESPN3.
The Buckeyes have had individuals compete in three collegiate events this fall and have come away with at least one title in all three events.
McNally is coming off winning both the singles and doubles titles at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship last month. He won six matches over the final two days to claim the crowns. The doubles title was with Cash which is how they earned their spot this week. McNally and Cash overcame three match points at 5-3 in the second set of the championship match and then went on to win the set and the ensuring tiebreaker to win the title.
Seelig earned his spot this week by advancing to the championship match against McNally at the Midwest Regional. The Hatfield, Pa., native has been a rock for the Buckeyes over the last three years as he has 94 career singles victories.
Kingsley came into this fall as one of the top freshmen in the country and he showed why he earned that distinction right out of the gate. He lost in his collegiate debut at the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa but then proceeded to reel-off five wins in a row, all over ranked opponents, to win the consolation bracket. That punched his ticket for this week and allowed him to compete in the ATP Charlottesville Challenger last month.
