Columbus, Ohio – Joel Brown, a former All-American hurdler at Ohio State, advanced to the 110-meter hurdles final Thursday at the 2005 International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Brown placed fourth in Heat No. 3 in a time of 13.43, which qualifies for the final set for Friday. Fellow Americans Allen Johnson, Terrence Trammell – both 2004 Olympians – and Dominique Arnold all reached the final as well.

Brown (Baltimore, Md.) ran in the same heat as Johnson, who clocked a winning time of 13.26. Johnson was the gold medal winner at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and 2003 World Champion in the 110m hurdles. Trammell ran a 13.31 to top Heat No. 2, while Arnold placed second in Heat No. 1 in 13.39.

The final of the 110-meter hurdles is scheduled for a 1:45 p.m. (EDT) start Friday.
