Senior defensive back Dustin Fox
On the match-up with Cincinnati
“It will be a challenging game for an opener. The last game (with Cincinnati) had some scary moments. They were making plays all day. Their offense will spread the ball around, using some bubble screens and plays like that. It will be important that we set the tone early. Hopefully our offense can make plays and our defense can make stops. I’m just excited for the opportunity to get another season underway.”

Senior kicker Mike Nugent
On the team’s goals for the season
“Number one, we want to be outright Big Ten champs. If you are outright Big Ten champs you have a great chance to be in the national championship game, so we need to take care of winning the Big Ten first.”

On his thoughts of Cincinnati head coach Mark Dantonio
“The way he ran things (when he was at Ohio State) was amazing. He was very disciplined but at the same time very personable with every single guy on his defense. He was always able to get his point across.”

On the Ohio State punters
“I thought (Monday) in practice was the best our punters had all preseason camp. They were just killing the ball and that was great to see.”

On playing in his final season opener
“It will be my last “first time,” that’s tough but I am just so excited. We’re all excited to get out there and work hard. The crowd will be into it and the atmosphere they create is amazing. They do a great job.”

Senior tailback Lydell Ross
On Cincinnati
“I expect Coach (Mark) Dantonio to have his team ready to play. They are physical and fast and can beat you in different ways. They have a veteran quarterback and linebacker who can make big plays. We will have to be ready and at our best to win.”

On the offensive line
“Some of these guys are inexperienced but hungry to play and compete. They are lighter than our past lines but very talented and capable of making plays.” Senior defensive end Simon Fraser
On Cincinnati head coach Mark Dantonio
“I have a great deal of respect for Coach Dantonio. He is very intense and knows the game of football. Going to Cincinnati was a huge career move for him and his family. I know he is excited and will have his team ready to play.”

On the defensive line
“This is one of the best defensive fronts I have seen since I came here. We have a lot of depth, so we will be able to rotate guys in and out. Some of our guys are really starting to step up and become players. Guys like David Patterson are working hard to gain playing time and help the team out.”
