Ohio State Football Award Winners

Outstanding play against Wisconsin recognized


COLUMBUS, Ohio The OhioState football coaching staff has selected its weekly award winners for outstanding play in the 38-17 win over No. 19 Wisconsin Saturday.


Running back Chris “Beanie” Wells was selected as offensive player of the week, and defensive lineman Vernon Gholston earned the Buckeyes’ defensive player of the week award. Austin Spitler was recognized as the special units player of the week by OhioState.


Scout team champions were: Offense:  J.D. Larsen; Defense: Ryan Lukens; Special Units: Bo DeLande. The “Attack Force” award went to lineabacker James Laurinaitis. Kirk Barton won the Jim Parker lineman award. The Jack Tatum Hit of the Week will be selected from plays involving Brian Hartline and Brandon Saine.


No. 1 Ohio State (10-0) hosts Illinois (7-3) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for a Big Ten contest that will be televised by ABC.
