COLUMBUS, Ohio – A total of five Buckeyes will open the season ranked in the first Oracle/ITA singles and doubles rankings.
Mikael Torpegaard, who spent most of last season at No. 1 and was in the top spot in the preseason rankings, opens this spring ranked No. 5. Torpegaard played in just the season-opening All-American Championship where he made a run to the semis. He spent the rest of the fall competing in various ATP Challenger events.
Redshirt-sophomore Kyle Seelig led the team with a 10-4 record in the fall and starts the year ranked No. 26. He ran through the qualifiers at the All-Americans and then advanced to the semis of the consolation bracket. He also made it to the quarters at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships and won his opening round match at the ITA Fall Championships which he earned a wild card entry. This is the first ranking for Seelig of his career.
John McNally and JJ Wolf check in at Nos. 57 and 60, respectively. McNally played well at the Midwest Regional and also earned a wild card into the Fall Championship where he too won an opening round match. Wolf opened the year at the All-American Championship and then missed the Midwest Regional because he was winning his first pro event at the USA 34 Futures in Harlingen, Texas.
Martin Joyce was 7-3 in singles play this fall and enters the rankings at No. 102. He and McNally teamed in doubles to make a run to the semis of the Midwest Regional and that earned them enough points to receive a No. 55 doubles ranking. They are the only Buckeyes doubles squad in the early season doubles rankings.
