Five Buckeyes Qualify for NCAAs on Day 1 of Zone Diving Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye divers Mackenzie Crawford, Clay Chaplin, Jake Fielding, Jacob Siler and Lyle Yost earned qualification to the 2022 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships with their finishes on the first day of the Zone C Championships. This year’s zone championships are being held at the Donald B. Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Events competed today included the women’s 1-meter and men’s 3-meter. The top nine finishers in each of today’s events are advancing to the NCAA championships.

Crawford finished fourth overall in the 1-meter dive after posting a score of 284.35 in the prelims and ending the day with an overall 579.75 score. Amanda Ling also made it to the finals in the event with a 15th place score of 265.20 in the prelims, but she stayed at 15th to finish the day. Also competing in the event was Jackie Brenn and Ciara McGing.

Lyle Yost led the Buckeye men with a final score of 811.80 to take fifth overall in the 3-meter. Chaplin (793.25) followed in sixth while Siler (760.90) and Fielding (756.95) took eighth and ninth to close out the qualifying divers in the event. Mike Parker competed in the finals for the Buckeyes as well, finishing 18th overall with a score of 631.35. Hunter Grannum and Joey Canova also competed in the event preliminary round for Ohio State.

Up Next

The Buckeyes continue competition at the Zone C Championships tomorrow, March 8. The women will compete in the 3-meter while the men compete on the 1-meter. The zone has 10 spots for women’s 3-meter and nine for the men’s 1-meter at the NCAA Championships.
