Five Buckeyes Named All-Midwest Region

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five members of the Ohio State women’s soccer team have garnered All-Midwest Region honors, the United Soccer Coaches announced Tuesday. Seniors Sammy Edwards, Nikki Walts and Morgan Wolcott were named first team all-region while juniors Devon Kerr and Sarah Roberts picked up second team all-region honors.

Edwards was named a first team All-Big Ten selection after leading the team with 10 goals and 25 points while starting all 21 matches. The Dublin, Ohio, native was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and notched five game-winning goals. Edwards concluded her career 10th on the Buckeyes’ career goals and points list with 25 and 59, respectively.

Walts was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and first team All-Big Ten in 2017, leading the team and ranking second in the conference with nine assists while starting all 21 matches. The team co-captain also earned second team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and finished her career fourth on the Ohio State career assists list with 22.

Wolcott, a three-time team captain, helped the Buckeyes to a 0.59 goals-against average and 10 shutouts while starting 18 matches at center back. The Milford, Ohio, native scored two goals and added an assist while being named Big Ten Defender of the Year, first team All-Big Ten and second team CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Kerr started all 21 matches in her junior campaign, earning second team All-Big Ten honors and Big Ten All-Tournament team laurels. The Barrie, Ontario, native ranked second in the Big Ten with a 0.63 goals-against average and nine shutouts. Kerr, a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, already is tied for fifth on the Buckeyes’ career shutout list with 11 and the nine clean sheets in 2017 ranked second in a single season in program history.

Roberts, a native of Aliso Viejo, Calif., played in all 21 matches, making 19 starts. The junior finished third on the team with five goals to go along with a pair of assists en route to third team All-Big Ten honors.
