Ohio State Buckeyes

Esther Clotet Alsina scored the first goal of the game, proving she will only increase her impact this year as the team’s returning leading scorer. The Buckeyes were able to consistently keep possession of the ball, a testament to the skill of the offense, and UMass was unable to move into scarlet and gray territory. The narrative was much of the same for the first 25 minutes of play.

Throughout the game, the Buckeyes recorded more goals than UMass was able to attempt shots. Goal scorers included Esther Clotet Alsina (1), Katie Pyle (1), Whitney Harris (1), Leanne Bough (1), Sina Schwinn (1), and Nikki Trzaska with assists by Mackenizie Allessie, Emma Goldean, Esther Clotet Alsina, and Sarah Charley. Solid connections and a competitive speed appeared to be the differentiators for Ohio State. They clinched their victory with 3 goals in the final quarter.

COACH MARTIN ON THE WIN:

“I’m proud of the team for a good game against a good UMass team. I thought we came out strong, which was one of our objectives. We were able to work through some things and saw some people step up that I was happy with. Overall, to get a good win like that to start the season is something we can build on and take into Monday when we play BU.”
