COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the 2019 Oracle ITA Final Fall Rankings Wednesday. Three singles standouts from the Ohio State women’s tennis program made the list.
First for the Buckeyes, Shiori Fukuda was individually ranked No. 11. The redshirt junior is the highest-ranked Buckeye since Francesca Di Lorenzo was No. 1 in the spring of 2017. The previous high for Shiori was in February 2018 when she was ranked No. 43. Fukuda has had a stellar fall, as she notched 13 wins with only four losses, with wins over seven players who are currently ranked. She reached the singles final at both the ITA Midwest Regional Championships and the USTA Fall Ranked Spotlight.
Freshman Irina Cantos Siemers was ranked No. 58. Cantos Siemers posted seven wins during her fall season. The freshman from Barcelona, Spain, posted two wins at the USTA Fall Ranked Spotlight, advanced to the final in the third flight at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic and, at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational, notched two wins. Two of her wins were over players currently ranked in the Top 40.
Kolie Allen was No. 125 in the ITA rankings. The sophomore earned seven victories with just four losses during her fall campaign. Allen reached the qualifying semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships and the round of 16 at the USTA Fall Ranked Spotlight.
The Buckeyes start their spring season Jan. 17-19, heading to Ann Arbor for the Michigan Invite. Last spring, the Scarlet and Gray found success at the invitational, with Mary Beth Hurley leading the Buckeyes with a 3-0 record in singles. Fukuda, Allen and Luna Dormet each earned two singles victories as well.
