Fifteen Earn Ohio State Scholar Athlete Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Athletics Department recognized outstanding scholar-athletes and teams with postgraduate scholarships and awards this week.

Senior Hannah Gruensfelder was named a Big Ten Medal of Honor finalist. The award, given to the most outstanding male and female senior student-athlete on each Big Ten campus each year, is awarded to the respective male and female student-athlete who has “attained the greatest proficiency in athletics and scholastic work.” Finalists are selected based on their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom, on the field, and as a leader and role model within their program.

Becca Mauer and Gruensfelder were among five Buckeyes selected for the Woody and Anne Hayes Award, which provides varsity athletes with financial assistance for postgraduate studies. Recipients must have achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher and possess leadership qualities.

The women’s volleyball program had 15 named Ohio State Scholar-Athletes. View the complete list of the 788 Buckeyes honored HERE.
