COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, right tackle Wyatt Davis and cornerback Shaun Wade were chosen on Friday to the Big Ten Conference’s preseason list of 10 outstanding players, with five representing the Big Ten East and five from the Big Ten West. The announcement was made on BTN one week shy of the conference officially kicking off for the 2020 season.
Fields, a finalist for the Heisman Trophy last year as a first-year starter for the Buckeyes, throw for 2,373 yards, 41 touchdowns and just three interceptions last fall while setting Ohio State’s single-season record for passer efficiency (181.4). In the process, he became the first quarterback in Big Ten history to pass for 40 touchdowns and rush for 10.
Davis is considered one of the nation’s top interior linemen and was a unanimous first-team All-American in 2019. A member of the Outland Trophy watch list, Davis has started 16 straight games dating back to 2018. With him paving the way, Ohio State ranked in the top five nationally in scoring offense (No. 3), rushing offense (No. 5) and total offense (No. 4).
Wade, the most experienced member of Ohio State’s secondary this season, is a fourth-year junior who graduated this past August with his degree in sport industry. He started 13 games last year and filled the stat sheet with 26 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, one interception and two forced fumbles. Wade is on the watch list for four major awards this preseason, including the Jim Thorpe Award, which honors the top defensive back in college football.
