COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team (1-1; 0-0 Big Ten) defeated the Vermont Catamounts, 4-2, Monday at Memorial Stadium in Durham, N.H. Freshman Yesenia Luces scored two goals for the Buckeyes, while freshman Dana Greeenhut and sophomore Lauren Kruse added a goal a piece. OSU controlled the ball during the first 35 minutes of action, scoring three goals. Luces (Fr., Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph’s Convent) put the first point on the board with Leticia Fragapane (Jr., Mendoza, Argentina/Universidad Nacional de Cuyo) assisting at 20:28. Greenhut (Fr., Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) and Luces scored the Buckeyes’ second and third goals at 9:22 and 6:17, respectively. Ohio State headed into halftime with a 3-0 lead. Ohio State got off to a fast start in the second half, with Kruse (So., Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) recording the squad’s fourth and final goal of the game with 20:03 left in the second half. Vermont’s Christie Layden ended a possible Buckeye shutout as she put the Catamounts on the scoreboard at 20:14. UVM’s Liz Berry posted another goal at 18:35. OSU goalkeeper Lindsay Williams (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) posted eight saves. Vermont’s goalies split time in net as Erin Hickey tallied four saves and Ariel Eber had 12. Shots for the game were even as both Ohio State and Vermont recorded 20 shots each. The Buckeyes continue their four-game road stretch when they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to battle the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at 3:30 Friday at Kentner Stadium.
