COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team (1-2; 0-0 Big Ten) suffered a 6-0 decision to Wake Forest, the two-time defending national champions, Friday at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. Junior Lindsay Williams made 13 saves, tying her career best last set Oct. 10, 2003 against Penn State. Wake Forest came out strong in the first half, scoring two goals within the first 10 minutes. The Buckeyes attempted to stave off the Demon Deacon defense, but were only able to connect with the ball for a shot once in the first stanza. Before halftime, Wake Forest scored three more goals, going into the break, 5-0. OSU’s defense stepped up in the second half, limiting Wake Forest to one goal. Ohio State had another scoring attempt, but was unsuccessful in the second stanza. Buckeye goalie Williams (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) recorded 13 saves to Wake Forest goalkeeper Kristina Gagliardi’s one. The Buckeyes compiled two shots, while the Demon Deacons had 35. Ohio State was not awarded a penalty corner, while Wake Forest had 10. Ohio State resumes play against Kent State at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio. The Buckeyes return to Columbus, Ohio, for their first home game of the season when they battle Miami (Ohio) at 3 p.m. Friday at North Turf Field.
