COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team (3-2; 0-0 Big Ten) posted a 4-0 shutout over the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (2-3; 0-0 MAC) Friday at North Turf Field in Columbus, Ohio. Curlyne Wynn registered two goals, while Yesenia Luces and Florenica Stier scored a goal apiece.

“The first half was uneventful,” Anne Wilkinson, head coach, said. “In the second half we got into our game and created openings that allowed us to sustain our attack.”

The beginning of the first half was a power struggle between the two teams, but Ohio State prevailed at the 23:43 mark when Stier (So., Buenos Aires, Argentina/Washington) fired a shot, which bounced off the Miami goalie into the back of the net. Wynn (So., Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/North Eastern College) followed with the first of her two unassisted goals at 27:58 as she struck from the middle of the pitch. The Buckeye defense held strong, allowing four shots and going into the half with a 2-0 lead.

Ohio State continued its offensive attack in the second half with Wynn firing a shot into the backboard at 65:17. The RedHawks offense was stifled by the OSU defense as they got off four shots. Ohio State was awarded a penalty corner as time was expiring and Luces (Fr., Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph’s Convent) directed a shot behind Miami’s goalkeeper for the final goal. Saskia Mueller (So., Zuerich, Switzerland/Gymnasium Unterstrass) was credited with the assist.

Buckeye goalie Lindsay Williams (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) recorded one save, while RedHawks goalie Kerri Orr notched 12. OSU outshot Miami 25-8 and posted a 7-5 penalty corner advantage.

Up next for Ohio State is the Ball State Cardinals at 2 p.m. Sept. 19 at North Turf Field in Columbus, Ohio.
