COLUMBUS, Ohio -The Ohio State field hockey team (3-0 overall, 0-0 in the Big Ten) capped off a three-game home stretch with a dominating 9-0 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The 9-0 score is the largest margin of victory for the Buckeyes since a 12-0 shutout over Wittenburg in 1979.

Captain Katie Hobson (Sr., Norristown, Pa./Methacton) and Marije Van Nouhuys (Jr., New Lyceum, Netherlands/New Lyceum) each turned in hat tricks to lead the offensive barrage. Mariana Sorozano (Fr., Caracas, Venezuela) added two goals to give her the second consecutive multiple-goal game of her young career and Vanessa Immordino (Fr., Roseland, N.J.) also scored. In goal, Allison Blanton (Jr., Newton, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) recorded her second consecutive shutout of the season.

“Overall, what put the pressure on Central Michigan was our ability to go to different players on the scoring end,” head coach Anne Wilkinson said. “They couldn’t focus on shutting one player down because someone else will pick up the slack if her teammate is being double or triple-teamed.”

A three-goal outburst in just over a three-minute span early in the game gave the Buckeyes a comfortable lead. Hobson opened the scoring with 3:29 gone in the opening half. Van Nouhuys made the score 2-0 at the 28:43 mark and Solorzano pushed the lead to 3-0 32 seconds later.Van Nouhuys scored her second goal with 14:53 remaining in the first half. Hobson added her second goal just eight seconds before the intermission.

Solorzano opened up the second half scoring, finding the back of the net on a corner penalty with 27:11 left in the contest. Hobson and Immordino each registered an assist on the play. Van Nouhuys tallied her final goal with 25:06 left in the contest. Hobson completed her hat trick with 16:32 remaining. Immordino closed the scoring with 6:33 left, with Hobson adding her second assist of the afternoon. On Sunday, Sept. 3, OSU will play Stanford in St Louis, Missouri.
