The Ohio State field hockey team (6-6; 0-3 Big Ten) suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Iowa Hawkeyes (6-5; 2-0 Big Ten) Saturday at Grant Field in Iowa City, Iowa.
The Buckeyes are back in action at 1:30 p.m. Sunday against the Pacific Tigers (4-5; 1-0 NorPac) at Grant Field.
Early in the first half the game was a defensive battle in which both teams were limited to under 10 shots. However, Iowa’s Caroline Blaum put the first point on the scoreboard when she chipped the ball into the net from the corner at the 28:58 mark. Ohio State posted two shots and two penalty corners in the half.
Ohio State attempted a comeback in the second half, but was unsuccessful. Iowa’s Margot McMahon scored the Hawkeyes’ second goal of the game at 49:58. Sarah Dawson was credited with the assist. The Buckeyes were awarded three penalty corners in the stanza.
Buckeye goalie Lindsay Williams (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) recorded nine saves, while Iowa goalkeeper Barb Weinberg had three. Ohio State registered three shots and five penalty corners to Iowa’s 13 and six, respectively.
