Buckeyes dominated game offensively, leading Bobcats 12-3 shots

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team continued its preseason tune-up Saturday, posting a 3-1 victory over Ohio University in an exhibition game at North Turf Field.

The Buckeyes jumped to an early lead as freshman Berta Queralt made an endline run toward the Bobcat goal, sending a pass to Aisling McKeon just five yards from of the goal where the junior pushed a reverse stick shot off the OU keeper into the net one minute into the game.

Queralt, a native of Barcelona, Spain, got on the board just six minutes later, scoring an unassisted goal to give Ohio State a 2-0 lead and end her day with a team-best three points.

The Bobcats spoiled Ohio State’s chances at a shutout, scoring on a penalty corner in the 32nd minute. In net for Ohio State was senior keeper Lindsay Quintiliani who played the complete, making two saves.

Junior Keegan Billick ended the scoring, picking up a turnover from OU’s keeper and poking it across the goal with 15:30 on the clock.

In the scrimmage, the Buckeyes outshot the Bobcats, 12-3, and held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners. Queralt led Ohio State in scoring with three points and posted four shots. McKeon and Billick ended the day with two points each while sophomore Aisling Coyle recorded three shots and Jena Cacciatore had two.

The Buckeyes have just six more days of practice before opening the 2009 season vs. James Madison at 1 p.m. Saturday at North Turf Field. The matchup is the first between the two squads since 2000 and is bound to be a good one. The following day, Ohio State welcomes Saint Louis to North Turf Field at 1 p.m.
