Ohio State finishes third in the 10-team league with a 3-1-3 record

COLUMBUS, Ohio After concluding its 2008 season in November, the Ohio State field hockey team geared up for next year by competing in the Longstreth Midwest Spring League the weekends of April 4 and April 19. The Buckeyes finished third in the 10-team league with a record of 3-1-3 in their seven games.

Ohio State concluded its spring action by hosting eight games April 18 at North Turf Field, before traveling to Kent State the next day.

On its home turf, the Buckeyes topped Ball State, 3-1, on two penalty corner goals by Jena Cacciatore, a junior-to-be and forward from Allentown, Pa. In the next game, classmate Keegan Billick pulled Ohio State to a 1-1 tie with Big Ten foe Michigan State on a last-second goal set up by Aisling McKeon.

The Buckeyes played their last two games in Kent. They opened with a scoreless tie behind a strong performance by goalkeeper Ali Ristas, before topping in-state rival Ohio, 2-1, on another game-ending goal. With no time left on the clock, Ohio State took advantage of a penalty corner with Cacciatore deflecting in a shot by Aisling Coyle. Their only loss of the spring season was a 1-0 defeat to Kent State.

In the first weekend of April, Ohio State defeated Central Michigan, 2-0, before tying Michigan in a scoreless game in Ann Arbor, Mich.
