COLUMBUS, Ohio Kevin McGuff, Ohio State head women’s basketball coach, announced today that junior guard Raven Ferguson will sit out the first three games of the regular season for a violation of team rules.

Ferguson will miss the games at West Virginia (Nov. 8) and vs. FAU (Nov. 10) and VCU (Nov. 14). She can return Nov. 17 at Georgia.

“I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Raven and having the opportunity to coach her, so it makes this extremely disappointing,” McGuff said. “She is a good kid, but her actions have not been in line with what the standards of this program are and will be in the future. Hopefully she can make some behavioral changes, and after this suspension, come back and make a positive impact on our program.”

Ferguson is one of three returning starters for the Buckeyes. She averaged 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds as a sophomore in 2012-13. She scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the exhibition win over Bellarmine Sunday.

The Buckeyes open the regular season at 5:30 p.m. Friday at West Virginia.
