Ohio State and Texas families and staff in project at St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix

A number of Ohio State coaches’ families and staff will be taking part in the annual community service project from 9-11 a.m. Sunday morning in Phoenix, Ariz. A number of the Texas football families are also planning to participate.

This year’s effort is work at the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, located at 2831 31st Ave. in Phoenix, AZ 85009.

St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, the world’s first food bank, is a non-sectarian, nonprofit organization that alleviates hunger by efficiently gathering and distributing food to sites that serve the hungry.

Serving 13 of Arizona’s 15 counties, the organization is committed to volunteerism, building community relationships and improving the quality of life for Arizonans in need. Since merging with Westside Food Bank on September 1, 2005, the Food Bank has reached deep into the community, getting more food to more people.

During Fiscal Year 2007-2008, the Food Bank distributed 43.4 million pounds of food to families and individuals, provided enough food for 167,000 meals every day, and garnered more than 327,890 volunteer service hours.
