Columbus, Ohio The members of the Ohio State University football team arrived in sunny Phoenix, Ariz., Monday from all parts of the U.S. to continue preparation for their Jan. 5 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl encounter against Texas.
Head coach Jim Tressel, the coaching staff and approximately 30 football players reconvened Monday morning at 7 a.m. at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and then bussed to Rickenbacker to board a charter flight of just under four hours to Phoenix. The other members of the team flew in from their hometowns or nearest hometown airport. All but a handful of players arrived in time for the team’s 3:30 p.m. meeting followed by practice at Pinnacle High School in Scottsdale. The Buckeyes and their traveling party are staying at the Fairmont Scottsdale.
Tressel met briefly with the media upon the team’s arrival at a media tent set up on the tarmac at Sky Harbor International Airport. He expressed appreciation to the contingent of Yellow Jackets the official Fiesta Bowl committee members for inviting the Buckeyes once again to their bowl and was appreciative of the clear blue skies and warm sunshine that greeted the team. In addition to the Yellow Jackets, a mariachi band serenaded the guests from Columbus as they were deplaning.
Forecast for the week is a good one: temperatures each day are expected to reach the high 60s to low 70s with plenty of sunshine…perfect weather to prepare for a big-time battle against the Texas Longhorns.
Tuesday’s schedule includes an 11 a.m. practice. The first 20 minutes of the practice will be open to the media.
