COLUMBUS, Ohio – EvanTurner, a national player of the year candidate on the men’s basketball team, has been named a First Team All-America by the Sporting News, released Tuesday morning on its Web site.

An honorable mention selection last year by the Associated Press, Turner became the first All-America selection for Ohio State since Greg Oden was a consensus first team pick in 2007.

Turner finished the regular season leading the conference in scoring (19.5 ppg.), rebounding (9.4 rpg.) and was second in assists (5.8 apg.). He is the first player in the history of the league to finish in the Top 2 in all three categories in a given year. Turner also was second in steals with 1.8 a game.

Ohio State finished the regular season with a 24-7 record and earned the No. 1 seed in the annual conference tournament. The Buckeyes open at noon Friday in Indianapolis vs. the winner of the No. 8 seed Michigan vs. No. 9 Iowa game, which will be played Thursday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
