COLUMBUS, Ohio – Redshirt sophomore Ethan Smith’s 5-4 decision over fourth-ranked David McFadden, a fifth year senior, was the top Buckeye highlight during a 21-15 dual loss to No. 11 Virginia Tech (3-0). Kollin Moore, Luke Pletcher and Chase Singletary were also victorious for No. 3 Ohio State (2-1).

Dual Score Sheet

An ultra-aggressive Pletcher ripped through the 141-pound bout, recording a half dozen takedowns while surrendering just four escapes in a 13-4 major decision over No. 19 Mitch Moore. It represented his second major decision of the weekend and sixth bonus point garnering performance of his 8-0 start to the season.

Three bouts later it was Ethan Smith’s turn to electrify the Buckeye faithful. He struck first, leaping ahead 2-0 with an early takedown. Smith was then the beneficiary of two penalty points assessed to McFadden, one in each of the first two periods. McFadden tallied a takedown of his own in the second, however, to create a 4-4 tie entering period number three. Smith elected to start the third frame on bottom and would escape for the bout-winning point.

Moore was dominate in his contest, posting no less than three takedowns in any period and a whopping five in the third. He raced past Stan Smeltzer in a 24-9 tech fall, improving to 8-0 with four major decisions, two tech falls and a pin.

Singletary, coming off a top-10 road win in his season debut at Pitt on Friday, had to grind one out on Sunday. He walked off the mat bloodied and battered, but also triumphant after a hard-fought 4-2 winner.
