COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State sophomore Addie Engel has been named Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The native of Springfield, Ohio, was recognized after finishing first at the Evansville Opener last Friday.
In just her second collegiate cross country meet, Engel paced the Buckeyes in Evansville, winning the women’s 5K with a time of 17:34.8, nearly 12 seconds ahead of second place. Ohio State claimed the women’s team title at the meet, with four Buckeyes in the Top 5 and seven of the Top 10 finishers.
Engel’s only other cross country appearance in the Scarlet and Gray came at the 2021 Big Ten Championships in January, where she finished third among the Buckeyes and 25th overall.
This week, the Buckeyes travel to University Park, Pa., for the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational Friday. The women’s race is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
