COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) announced Ohio State junior Emma Laaksonen (Jr., Espoo, Finland/Team Finland/Blues Espoo) has been named the conference defensive player of the week for the week ending Dec. 15.

Laaksonen scored two goals in the 4-0 shutout against No. 8 Princeton Saturday. She aided the Buckeye penalty-killing unit, which held Princeton scoreless on all seven power plays last weekend. Laaksonen was named the No. 1 star of the game in Saturday’s contest.

“Emma had an outstanding weekend on both sides of the puck,” Jackie Barto, OSU head coach, said. “Our power play unit moved the puck well on Saturday and Emma capitalized on a beautiful goal off the give-and-go.”

Laaksonen is averaging 1.00 points per game, seventh in the nation among defensemen. She ranks second in points on the Buckeye squad with 16 overall.

Ohio State is taking a two-week break from play during the holidays. The Buckeyes will return to action with a two-game road trip. OSU faces Dartmouth at 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H. The Buckeyes then travel to Canton, N.Y., where they will take on St. Lawrence at 7 p.m. Jan. 4 at Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y.
