COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s soccer head coach Lori Walker announced Tuesday that senior midfielder Ellyn Gruber will captain the 2014 Buckeyes.

“I am proud to announce senior Ellyn Gruber as a unanimous selection by teammates and coaches as team captain for 2014,” Walker said. Ellyn possesses so many characteristics that are necessary to lead a team to excellence. She is a wonderful mentor who listens and leads by example. She has the patience to teach and show others how to grow and achieve but the most important and difficult skill is her ability to take control and command her peers. Holding teammates accountable to standards of excellence while providing stability in times of uncertainty is a difficult balance. Ellyn has experienced adversity in her career that has prepared her for this platform. The beauty of Ellyn is that she always attacks with a smile.”

Gruber, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, has played in 63 career matches, starting 45. Also a team captain in 2013, Gruber tallied three goals and tied for the team lead with seven assists last season as a junior. Gruber, who has notched four goals and 12 assists in her career, is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten pick.
