Eleven NFL Buckeyes Prepping for NFL Playoffs

COLUMBUS, Ohio — There will be eight Ohio State Buckeyes competing in the NFL’s wild card weekend this Saturday and Sunday with six of them taking part in the game Sunday between the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kickoff is set for 4:40 p.m. on FOX. There are 11 former Buckeyes, in all, on active rosters with NFL playoff bound teams.

The Saints feature the most Buckeyes with four: safety Vonn Bell, wide receiver Ted Ginn, Jr., cornerback Marshon Lattimore and wide receiver Michael Thomas. Carolina will counter with safety Kurt Coleman and offensive guard Andrew Norwell, while wide receiver Curtis Samuel is on injured reserve.

Two of the three other wild card games will include Buckeyes: Jake McQuaide is a long snapper for the Los Angeles Rams, who host the Atlanta Falcons Saturday at 8:15 p.m. Defensive tackle Adolphus Washington helped the Buffalo Bills make the playoffs for the first time since 1999, and they’ll travel to Jacksonville for a 1:05 p.m. game Sunday. Defensive tackle Michael Bennett is on injured reserve for the Jaguars.

Teams with byes into the next round of the playoffs with former Buckeyes include: the Minnesota Vikings (center Pat Elflein); Philadelphia Eagles (safety Malcolm Jenkins; punter Cam Johnston was recently signed to the Eagles’ reserve/future roster); the New England Patriots (defensive back Nate Ebner, although he is on injured reserve); and the Pittsburgh Steelers (defensive end Cam Heyward; linebacker Ryan Shazier is on injured reserve).

There were 40 former Ohio State Buckeyes on NFL 53-man rosters during the 2017 season.
