COLUMBUS, Ohio – The NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Committee announced the swimmers who qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday, with seven individual qualifying berths and five qualifying relay times earned by Ohio State. The Buckeyes posted NCAA ‘A’ Cuts in all five relays, one of just nine teams to do so. The championship meet is set for March 27-30 in Austin, Texas.

Sophomore Paul DeLakis, freshman Ruslan Gaziev, junior Noah Lense, junior Andrew Loy, freshman Jason Mathews, senior Henrique Painhas and senior Michael Salazar received individual berths. With all five relay times qualified as well, junior Matthew Abeysinghe, sophomore Colin McDermott, sophomore Ben Sugar and senior Mossimo Chavez will serve as alternates, bringing Ohio State’s total number of swimmers competing at the NCAA Championships to 11.

Lense is the most experienced of the Buckeyes, appearing in his third consecutive NCAA Championship. DeLakis, Loy and Painhas will make their second-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships, while Gaziev and Mathews qualify for the first time in their young Buckeye careers. Salazar, previously an alternate, will compete as an individual for the first time, ending his senior year on a strong note.

Ohio State’s seven qualifiers is the third-most of Big Ten teams. Out of 45 teams with selected swimmers, Ohio State ranks in the Top-13 with number of qualifiers.

Divers will be selected based on performance at the NCAA Zone Diving Qualifiers this weekend in West Lafayette, Ind., from March 14-16. Five from the Ohio State diving squad will compete on all three boards to qualify for a spot at the NCAA Championships.
