COLUMBUS, Ohio – At Summer Commencement Sunday afternoon in the Jerome Schottenstein Center, 18 current and former Ohio State student-athletes will receive their degrees. The ceremony starts at 1 p.m. and will be streamed online: http://commencement.osu.edu/video.php.
The graduates represent 14 sports and include outstanding student-athletes who also were All-Big Ten selections.
Among the standouts:
Dee Dee Hillman, who is graduating with a degree in sport and leisure studies, was a three-time All-Big Ten honoree during her four-year career at Ohio State. As a senior co-captain in 2011, the Big Ten Medal of Honor finalist was first in triples, second in runs and stolen bases starting in every game for the Scarlet and Gray. In 2009, her sophomore year, Hillman became the ninth Buckeye under head coach Linda Kalafatis to be named first team All-Big Ten selection, batting .297 at the plate, including a .373 average in Big Ten play, with 46 hits and a team-high 17 stolen bases.
Women’s volleyball outside hitter Katie Dull, a sport and leisure studies graduate, was a four-year starter for the women’s volleyball team, a two-time first team All-Big Ten selection and a 2010 American Volleyball Coaches Association Regional Honorable Mention honoree. In 2009, Dull was an AVCA First Team All-Region Selection and an Honorable Mention All-American. A four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Selection, she was a 2010 ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District Selection. She finished her career ranked fourth in kills with 1,621 and fourth in points with 1,881.
Human nutrition graduate In Hong Lim of the women’s golf team was the lone senior on the 2010-11 squad and led the Buckeyes to a NCAA Championship berth while serving as co-captain. She was a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, earning first team honors in 2009 and second team accolades in 2010. She was a NGCA All-American Scholar, three-time winner of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for the women’s golf team and an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten choice.
Political science major Sam Scales, a 2010 captain of the Ohio State men’s soccer team, was a four-year contributor at Ohio State, starting all but one game from his sophomore through senior seasons. In 2010, he tallied two goals and four assists to bring his career totals to five goals and 15 assists, a mark that stands seventh all-time in the OSU record books for career assists. As a junior, Scales led the team in points (11) and assists (7). He was selected in the 2011 Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft by Sporting KC in January, but was not signed by the team.
