Dwayne Haskins Ties B1G Player of the Week Record

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dwayne Haskins led Ohio State back from three 14-point deficits, led three fourth quarter touchdown drives to force overtime and scored the winning touchdown against Maryland in overtime to earn the Big Ten Conference’s co-offensive player of the week honors for a record-tying fifth time this season. Ohio State’s Troy Smith also had five such honors during his 2006 Heisman Trophy-winning season.

Haskins, who threw for 405 yards and three touchdowns plus rushed for a career-best 59 yards and three more touchdowns, directed three different game-tying touchdown drives in the fourth quarter when Ohio State trailed 31-24, 38-31 and 45-38. He was 11 of 15 for 118 yards and two touchdowns plus scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter alone. Ohio State ultimately prevailed on a wild day in College Park, Md., 52-51, when a Terrapin two-point passing try in OT for the win fell incomplete.

The school-record extending fourth 400-yard passing day of the season for Haskins enabled the junior from Potomac, Md., to break the 20-year-old Ohio State single season passing record of 3,330 yards held by Joe Germaine in 1998. Haskins’ 405-yard afternoon increased his season total to 3,685 yards. He also broke J.T. Barrett’s single season touchdown mark with three more touchdown passes to increase his total to 36, which is tied for No. 1 in the nation.
