SAN FRANCISCO-Sophomore J.J. Sullinger and junior Tony Stockman combined to score 46 points Friday in Ohio State’s season-opening loss to San Francisco.
The Buckeyes dropped their road opener 76-65 in the first of four games away from home for Ohio State.
The team will travel Saturday to Maui, Hawaii, for the 2003 EA Sports Maui Invitational Nov. 24-26.
Sullinger, playing in his first game as a Buckeye, led all scorers with 24 points. Stockman, also appearing in his first Ohio State game, was the next top scorer in the game with 22 points.
USF placed four players in double figures offensively, led by Tyrone Riley’s 19 points.
Buckeye sophomore Terence Dials grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Ohio State never led in the game but won the battle of the boards 38-31.
Ohio State connected on 23-of-48 shots from the field but converted just 12-of-26 foul shots. The Dons made 22-of-54 shots from the floor but took 41 free throws, making 27.
Ohio State, 0-1, opens play at the Maui Invitational Monday at 9 p.m. EST against San Diego State. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
