COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State’s spectacular McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, featuring the Ron O’Brien Diving Well and the Mike Peppe Natatorium, will host its 12th major event Sunday through Wednesday, Feb. 8-11, as USA Diving holds its 2009 World Championship team selection camp.

Some 88 of the best men’s and women’s divers in the United States have qualified for the camp, which will also be used to build USA teams for two other international events: the Canada Cup, May 1-3 at a site to be determined, and the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix, set for May 7-9 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The World Championships are July 18-25 in Rome.

Headliners among the 40 men’s divers are 2008 Olympic Team members David Boudia, Chris Colwill, Troy Dumais and Thomas Finchum. Four current Buckeyes sophomore Ryan Jefferson, sophomore Sean Moore, junior Burkley Showe and senior Wes Weiser and alum Kellen Harkness will also be competing (or have qualified) on the various boards.

Women’s Olympians scheduled to compete include Nancilea Foster, Haley Ishimatsu, Christina Loukas and Laura Wilkinson. Buckeyes expected to compete among the 48 divers include sophomores Kristen Asman and Bianca Alvarez and senior Chelsea Davis.  

There will be no admission charge to the various sessions each day. The schedule for each day:

The Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion
Considered one of the finest competition pools and diving wells in the nation, the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion’s new technology provides a venue for some of the fastest times and best diving in the country. In fact, the July 2007 issue of Aquatics International magazine stated this about McCorkle:

“a state-of-the-art competition pool loaded with the latest technology sets a university apart from the competition.”

Dedicated October 14, 2005, the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion is the newest addition to Ohio State’s top-notch athletic facilities. The Pavilion consists of the Mike Peppe Natatorium and the Ron O’Brien Diving Well. Holding nearly 1.56 million gallons of water in the entire facility, the Pavilion is part of Ohio State’s new Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC). The McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion has already has hosted numerous championship competitions and is scheduled to host more. Here’s the championship slate to date:
