COLUMBUS, Ohio – Francesca Di Lorenzo, a sophomore on the No. 4-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team, was named Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The native of New Albany, Ohio, picked up two singles and two doubles wins last week as the Buckeyes closed out conference play by winning the Big Ten regular season title.
Di Lorenzo, the NCAA’s top-ranked player all spring, dropped just one game in two victories on court one, as the Buckeyes topped Indiana and Purdue. She was 10-0 in singles in Big Ten play this spring.
In doubles, Di Lorenzo posted victories on court one against both the Hoosiers and Boilermakers. She and Anna Sanford shut out Indiana and Di Lorenzo and Miho Kowase, the nation’s 19th-ranked duo, downed the No. 55-ranked team from Purdue, 6-2.
This is the fifth career Big Ten weekly award for Di Lorenzo and her third this season. She is 31-1 overall this year and 21-1 in dual matches. She enters the Big Ten Tournament on a 16-match winning streak.
The two team wins wrapped up the regular season for the Buckeyes, who finished conference play 11-0 for the second straight year to win back to back league titles.
Di Lorenzo and the Buckeyes (25-2) enter this weekend’s Big Ten Tournament in Champaign, Ill., as the No. 1 seed and the tournament’s defending champion. The squad opens play at 11 a.m. ET Friday in the quarterfinals.
