PORVASNIK EARNS BIG TEN GOLFER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Jessica Porvasnik was selected as the Big Ten Golfer of the Week (Feb. 10) thanks to a top-15 showing at the Spring season opening Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The Buckeye junior bested 28 of Golfstat’s top-100 players and tied for 13th overall after leaping 19 slots on the final day by firing a 68 closing round. ALL-TIME RECORDS SET BY BUCKEYES IN 2014 WESTBROOK SPRING INVITATIONAL
The Buckeyes made quite an impression in their debut at the 2014 Westbrook Spring Invitational, Ohio State’s first time competing in the event. Then-freshman Jessica Porvasnik cleared the field by four strokes to capture medalist honors by carding a tournament record (which still stands today) 13-under 203. She fired an all-time Ohio State-best 65 in the opening round before contributing a second-round 67 as the Buckeyes tied the school record with a 278 team total. For the entire 54 holes, Ohio State sat 26-under (838) — ranked first in both OSU and Westbrook Spring Invitational history.
Ohio State then returned to the desert last season and notched another top-5 finish.
Three Buckeyes in this week’s lineup have been staples there for Ohio State this season. Katja Pogacar, Jessica Porvasnik and Rio Watanabe have each members of the lineup for all five tournaments and combined to contribute to the team tally in 40 of a possible 45 rounds.
