COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dave Dobbins, who recently wrapped up his fourth year as an assistant coach on the Ohio State men’s lacrosse coaching staff, has been promoted to associate head coach, Nick Myers, the team’s head coach, announced. Dobbins works primarily with the Buckeye offense and special teams and oversees the team’s community service and academic programs.

“Coach Dobbins has done an outstanding job mentoring our men both on and off the field over the past four years,” Myers said. “This promotion is well deserved as he has developed a greater understanding of all the different facets of being a head coach. Under his leadership the bar has been raised for our community service efforts and academic achievements. Coach Dobbins plays a major role in recruiting future Buckeyes and he will continue to direct our offense and find innovative ways to get the very most out of our personnel.”

Dobbins looks forward to continuing to work to improve the Ohio State program in all facets.

“I would like to thank Coach Myers for providing this great opportunity to take the next step in my collegiate coaching career,” Dobbins said. “Under his leadership I have been able to grow and learn as a coach and have seen this program make great strides in the classroom, in the community and on the field. With the strong support we have from our administration, and the unbelievable staff we have in place, the future of the Ohio State men’s lacrosse program is primed for great things. I am honored and humbled to serve as an associate head coach for the Ohio State men’s lacrosse program and look forward to the hard work that lies ahead to help this program reach new heights.”

In the community, Dobbins has spearheaded the Buckeye efforts which have reached a number of different constituents. The squad has combined for more than 600 community service hours each of the last two years, volunteering with organizations including Ronald McDonald House, World War II Honor Flight and the Second and Seven Foundation.

The Ohio State program has been outstanding academically, with 22 Ohio State Scholar-Athletes, 18 Academic All-Big Ten selections, nine ECAC All-Academic choices, three USILA Scholar All-Americans and two Big Ten Distinguished Scholars in 2013 alone. All nine seniors in the Class of 2013 were Academic All-Big Ten honorees.

The Buckeyes were fourth nationally in man-up offense in 2013, scoring on 46 percent of their EMO chances. Dobbins and the staff guided the Buckeyes to the ECAC tournament championship, a No. 3 seed and first-round home game in the NCAA tournament and a berth in the NCAA quarterfinals for just the second time in program history. Under Dobbins, Logan Schuss became the first three-time USILA All-American in Ohio State history, including second-team accolades in 2013 as he became the program’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Dobbins joined the Buckeyes after serving six years (2003-09) as an assistant coach at Salisbury University (Md.) with one of the most successful collegiate men’s lacrosse programs in the country. As the 2005 Division III Assistant Coach of the Year, he was part of the Sea Gulls when the squad won four Division III National Championships and was a national runner-up, coaching 47 All-Americans and five national players of the year. Prior to joining the Salisbury staff, Dobbins coached two seasons at the middle and high school levels in New York.

Dobbins was a four-year letter winner at Colgate University. The Webster, N.Y., native earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Colgate in 2001 and his master’s degree in education from Salisbury in 2005. He taught high school mathematics at two Salisbury-area high schools for five years.
