Four invited to Canada’s strength and conditioning camp, Knapp to attend USA Hockey goaltending camp
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Current and incoming members of the Ohio State women’s hockey team have been invited to attend national camps in Canada and the United States. Four Buckeyes were among Hockey Canada’s recently released list of 109 players invited to its National Women’s Program Strength and Conditioning Camp, while sophomore-to-be Chelsea Knapp is included in the invitees to USA Hockey’s Warren Strelow National Team Goaltending Camp.
Participating in the Canadian camp will be current OSU forwards Hokey Langan, Laura McIntosh and Natalie Spooner as well as incoming goalie Lisa Steffes. It will take place May 25-30 at the University of Calgary in Alberta with a breakdown of 19 goalies, 33 defensemen and 57 forwards.
Invitations were made based on evaluations done throughout the 2009-10 season by Hockey Canada’s regional scouts and the coaching staffs of Canada’s National Women’s Team, National Women’s Under-22 Team and National Women’s Under-18 Team. Those who were chosen to attend the off-ice camp were evaluated while they played with their club teams in-season, as well as at various national camps and events.
USA Hockey is in its third year hosting the Warren Strelow National Team Goaltending Camp, held May 27-30 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Last season, Knapp was the first freshman to start in Ohio State’s net since its inaugural season in 1999-2000. The York, N.Y., native is among 36 goaltenders to attend the elite camp, and those chosen represent the top goalies eligible for international play in select age groups.
